Adventures in Video

Stop me if you’ve heard this story before: We played golf in Phoenix this past weekend.

No, wait, don’t go! There’s a new twist this time: We took the opportunity to test out some video! Ooooooo, multimedia.

See, you can never have enough content for the show. Radio’s fun and all, but shooting some footage and uploading it to YouTube is easier than ever. So now you get our usual banter and nonsense mixed with ocular enjoyment. And it never hurts to put a face to the voice.

Here are the videos from this weekend. It’s like a test run. There’s also some more notes after the jump for those who may be interested. And to top it all off, the Photos page has been updated too.

Notes on the first video:

  • I picked this video as the test and the teaser because it has a little bit of everything. There’s a couple different people on the “mic” recording, a couple awful tee shots, and a pole vaulter doing work off in the distance.
  • The second guy who hits in the video is friend of the show Andy Smith, who guest starred in Episode 018.
  • This was a par 5, the longest whole on the course. Dave ended up getting a birdie after a good tee shot and an even better approach. I got a bogey after hitting my first tee shot to the moon or something (but the second one was good).
  • I have to admit, I’m really impressed by the iPhone’s video recording quality. I think this was done on a 4, which allows up to 720p (bump that YouTube quality up, folks!) — it’s very good. Suddenly I’ve gone from being not interested in an iPhone in the slightest to actually kinda wanting one, if for no other reason than having a handy video recorder nearby.
  • It might be beating a dead horse, but it’s really nice in Phoenix this time of year. I mean my goodness.
  • I have no idea where the chase music comes from, but I think it adds some much-needed excitement to golf.

I’m going to try to keep playing with video editing and upload more stuff soon. It’s going to take more work than I’d like (for example, Shaun spent half the time filming upside down), but I think it’s a fun addition to the site. In the future, you can check out videos at youtube.com/atthebuzzershow.
