I had thought that I might be able to go back to back on reviews and do Tales of Graces this week. That was a foolish thought considering that Tales games usually last somewhere around 50 to 60 hours. Shaun and I have been playing with our roommates and are maybe 12 hours in so far, and it’s a very solid game. We’ll see if the review can be ready by next week — I’m not of the mindset that I have to beat something to write about it, but I certainly want to be farther into the game than this.
In the meantime, here’s some random thoughts as we fight off all the snow from the past 24 hours.
- Yeah, snow. So two days ago it was 60 degrees outside and an annoying bird was chirping outside our window. He was probably saying something like “tee hee, it’s almost spring, so I’ll be back to making noise outside your window at 5:30 a.m. in no time!” Birds are jerks. That bird got what was coming, though: two feet of snow out of nowhere. We’re supposed to return to near-spring weather later this week, so it was certainly a bizarre little storm. Still, that means we’re getting close to rain soon, and rain is something I can get fully behind. Meanwhile, I’m assuming that bird is dead. No one will miss him.
- The severe weather warnings scared us off of a trip down to Phoenix this weekend, and sure enough, the highways around here saw their fair share of closures. There’s a chance the drive still would have been fine, but man, that’s a tough spot. Driving through inclement weather is bad enough, but when the one major road that goes to Flagstaff gets closed, your only real option is to turn around and go all the way back unless the conditions are going to improve in the near future.
- You’d think that I would have been watching the NCAA tournament with all my free time that suddenly appeared this weekend, but no. This is the first season I haven’t even watched a game (although I did watch the ending of the Norfolk State upset). Admittedly, it was a little more fun having two huge 2/15 upsets in the first round knowing that I didn’t have a bracket for them to ruin.
- You know what’s weird? People without any ambition. Look, I’m not saying I’m the king here — while I’m working in the field that I’ve chosen and have a decent job and all that, I’m not exactly shooting to work at the New York Times. But I still have goals and dreams that drive me to stay sharp. A couple people I know are not so lucky, and it’s unfortunate to see them spinning their wheels and being unhappy in the process. I guess I’ve never been wired that way, but I always have some project, big or small, that pushes me forward. This site, and this show, is one of them.
- Speaking of our site, we’re going to hit the 10,000-view plateau sometime this week. It’s hard to believe considering where we were a year ago — the site hadn’t even been opened yet and we had recorded just two episodes, neither of which had been heard by anyone yet (and thank god for that). More and more people have tuned in to the show and visited the site, and for that we thank you. We’re working hard to keep putting out better content and have been doing the daily routine consistently for a while now. The next step? Well, if we’re talking about goals and dreams again, I want to end up in a studio of some sort. On-air radio, a professional recording studio, something with syndication or a live show with a video feed … the possibilities are endless. Your continued support will help all of that happen, and hopefully you’ll get a few laughs along the way.
