Labor of Love

I thought about taking today off and not writing anything. I really did.

We’ve had a few missing articles in the past couple weeks from just about everyone else, so what was the harm in missing one myself? It’s a holiday, after all, even if I had to work on it (stupid Labor Day). But part of me just isn’t wired that way.

One of my greatest qualities — and most glaring weaknesses — is the fact that once I jump in on a job, a project, or an idea, I’m 100% on board. For better or worse, I pour myself into the main parts of my life. It’s why I don’t really think twice about spending 20+ hours a week doing writing, editing, promotion and research for this podcast/website. It’s also why I spent 10 semesters at the college paper when I really should have been gone after six — I get too invested sometimes.

So instead of shrugging my shoulders and getting ideas ready for my post next week, here I am. What should we talk about, America?

Let’s see…we recorded this week’s episode earlier today. It’s going to reveal a lot about Shaun’s inner psyche. You should be prepared to have your mind blown when the truth comes out (yes, even more truth than in the truth episode from last week). It’s also going to be the debut of Dave’s stand-up comedy career. You should be prepared to have your mind blown when the punch lines comes out.

We mentioned it in the Buzzerbeater that will air on Thursday, but another thing that happened today before work was the Neverending Pasta Bowl at the Olive Garden (ding). In the past, that was a cheap way for a college student to eat food until his eyes started bleeding — which probably started happening somewhere around the fifth or sixth bowl. Now I pretty much just go once a year, and that turns out to be enough. Sometimes nostalgia is stronger when you don’t constantly relive it.

So that’s about it for today. Busy day, but at least I got some good stuff done and got paid time and a half for working. Things could certainly be worse. And now, I leave you with a picture of Scarlett Johansson. Happy Labor Day!
