Persona 5 Trailer Debuts, PS4 Version Added

So it’s official: Persona 5 has a trailer, and it’s not coming out this year.

That news isn’t too surprising. We were overdue for some news on the game — but because so few details had been revealed, a 2014 release date looked increasingly unlikely.

Still, the trailer (see below) gives us a few new bits of information. We get a look at what seems to be the protagonist, looking swaggity swag as ever. There’s some high school students on a train, who might be party members and might not. More importantly, they’re going to love the main character, just like everyone else in this city. And what a city — a bustling metropolis, a stark contrast to the smaller towns of P3 and P4.

Perhaps the biggest news is that P5 will also be coming to the PS4. Originally, news came out at about the same time that Persona 5 and Tales of Zestiria were going to be last-gen titles, despite their 2015 (or later) release dates. While it’s unlikely that Namco Bandai will add PS4 support for Zestiria, P5 still adds some more clout for JRPG fans to go with Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III and the like.

We still have a lot to learn about Atlas’ next masterpiece, but at least the pieces seem to be falling into place. Since there are plenty of other interesting games coming down the pipe between now and then, it won’t be hard to kill time. And then? Then I take a new teenager and make him the king of a new town.
