Music to My Ears: Box 15/16 (Danganronpa)

May 14, 2018June 18, 2018 Chris

It seems like a disservice to have finished the first Danganronpa game and not get around to covering any of the music. There’s a cool, funky, jazzy vibe to most of the soundtrack, and several songs stick out when they … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Box 15/16 (Danganronpa)

First Impressions: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

May 7, 2018June 4, 2018 Chris

Danganronpa is a series that I’ve wanted to get into for some time. All I’ve heard about it is that it’s sort of like a deadlier, teenage version of Phoenix Wright — a visual novel with a courtroom aspect and … Continue reading First Impressions: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

The Steins;Gate 0 Dub Debuts Today and I’m Excited

April 30, 2018June 11, 2018 Chris

Sometimes I look back on things that I’ve written over the years and I can’t help but grimace a bit. For example, there’s a Skyward Sword review from more than six years ago where I called it the best Zelda … Continue reading The Steins;Gate 0 Dub Debuts Today and I’m Excited

Avengers: Infinity War and Learning from Mistakes

April 24, 2018May 28, 2018 Chris

Avengers: Infinity War comes out in just a couple days (and plenty of people have seen it already), and I’m excited. Sure, the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets its share of haters from its dominance of the box office, but I … Continue reading Avengers: Infinity War and Learning from Mistakes

Music to My Ears: Phantasmal Blaze and Blue Destination

April 18, 2018May 14, 2018 Chris

Okay, this is the last week we’re going to feature Trails of Cold Steel II for a while, I promise. But there were a couple tracks that I’ve been putting off for potential spoiler reasons, and they might be the … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Phantasmal Blaze and Blue Destination

Wrestlemania 34 Review: Blood, Sweat and Tears — and More Blood

April 9, 2018May 21, 2018 Chris

A night after a phenomenal NXT Takeover (seriously, go watch Gargano/Ciampa and the six-man ladder match if you haven’t already), Wrestlemania 34 was faced with its usual task of trying to provide something for everyone. That’s a tough sell, especially … Continue reading Wrestlemania 34 Review: Blood, Sweat and Tears — and More Blood

Moving, or Why Some Old Video Games Had to Go

March 27, 2018May 7, 2018 Chris

I’ve never been much of a hoarder myself, but I do tend to keep things longer than I should. The biggest issue for me is nostalgia — if an item meant something important to me once upon a time, it’s … Continue reading Moving, or Why Some Old Video Games Had to Go

Music to My Ears: Aria ~Holy Saint, Holy Spirit~

March 13, 2018April 18, 2018 Chris

This is one of the coolest songs in Trails of Cold Steel II, and like the last track we covered, it’s actually a reference to a song from earlier in the series. Aria ~Holy Saint, Holy Spirit~ is from an … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Aria ~Holy Saint, Holy Spirit~

Early Impressions: Rise of the Tomb Raider

March 5, 2018April 30, 2018 Chris

Slowly but surely, I’m working my way through games that I’ve missed in the last couple years. The backlog problem is a very real thing. One of those titles is Rise of the Tomb Raider, the sequel to the 2013 … Continue reading Early Impressions: Rise of the Tomb Raider

Music to My Ears: Awakening Will

February 12, 2018March 13, 2018 Chris

We’ve reached the halfway point of our playthrough of Trails of Cold Steel II, at least as far as recording goes (although the video series isn’t too far behind either). That’s the point at which everything about the sequel gets … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Awakening Will

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
