Three New Smash Characters Revealed; Overreactions Unwarranted

July 14, 2014August 3, 2014 Chris

We got a bit of a surprise this morning from today’s expected Smash Bros. announcement in the Nintendo Direct program: what was supposed to have been a new character reveal turned out to be three instead. In addition to Captain … Continue reading Three New Smash Characters Revealed; Overreactions Unwarranted

LeBron James, The Suns, and The Temptation of Hope

July 10, 2014July 30, 2014 Chris

At some point, probably in the next two or three days, LeBron James will decide between Miami and Cleveland as his next team. When NBA free agency opened on July 1st, the usual rumors started making the rounds. Carmelo was … Continue reading LeBron James, The Suns, and The Temptation of Hope

Music to My Ears: Main Theme (Shovel Knight)

July 1, 2014July 18, 2014 Chris

Music to My Ears is steeling thy shovel! One of the most interesting parts about early video game soundtracks is the composition. With only a handful of channels and so-called “instruments” to choose from, composers had to maximize their impact … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Main Theme (Shovel Knight)

Number Sixteen With a Bullet

June 25, 2014July 18, 2014 Chris

Admittedly, I just wanted a reason to put Stacy Keibler on our front page again. I’m selfish like that. The next couple weeks get insanely busy, so rather than try to tackle some subjects in a longer post, here they … Continue reading Number Sixteen With a Bullet

Music to My Ears: Brinstar Overgrown with Vegetation

June 18, 2014July 6, 2014 Chris

Music to My Ears is looking a little green in the gills. If you ask me on a given day to pick my favorite video game song, the answer will probably change. There are certain songs that I’ve always loved … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Brinstar Overgrown with Vegetation

Review: MLB 14 The Show (PS4)

June 16, 2014July 10, 2014 Chris

MLB 14 The Show makes the jump to the next generation of systems, and it’s mostly a successful transition. Like the FIFA and NBA franchises before it, The Show put out a current-gen offering earlier in the year and then … Continue reading Review: MLB 14 The Show (PS4)

Music to My Ears: Light Plane

May 29, 2014June 11, 2014 Chris

Music to My Ears is taking to the skies and trying not to crash back down. I sucked at Pilotwings. I’m not sure if there’s ever been a game I’ve played that I’ve been worse at. At a certain point, … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Light Plane

Music to My Ears: vs. Champion Cynthia (B/W 2)

May 20, 2014June 11, 2014 Chris

Music to My Ears is taking a look at a remix of a remix of a great theme. Cynthia is probably my favorite champion in the Pokemon series, and that’s not light praise. After all, there’s been no shortage of … Continue reading Music to My Ears: vs. Champion Cynthia (B/W 2)

Review: Steins;Gate and the Importance of Consistency

May 16, 2014March 6, 2017 Chris

The beauty of Steins;Gate is in the details. If you’re the type of person who wants elaborate fight scenes or giant mechs in their anime, your first instinct will be to steer clear. But if you do, you’ll be missing … Continue reading Review: Steins;Gate and the Importance of Consistency

Music to My Ears: L’Arlesienne Second Suite

May 9, 2014May 20, 2014 Chris

Music to My Ears continues with a song that will rock you in your sleep. Catherine is a game that I’ll probably never play myself, especially after being in the room when Jason tackled it. Still, I thought the concept … Continue reading Music to My Ears: L’Arlesienne Second Suite

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
