“Twitch Plays Pokemon”: End of the Crystal Era

March 16, 2014March 24, 2014 Chris

We’ve been covering Twitch Plays Pokemon quite a bit on the site, mostly because I find it fascinating. There’s the social experiment aspect, the flood of creative memes, and the thrill of victory against the odds. A few days ago, … Continue reading “Twitch Plays Pokemon”: End of the Crystal Era

Music to My Ears: Team Rocket Battle

March 11, 2014June 19, 2017 Chris

This week, Music to My Ears is paying homage to Twitch Plays Pokemon’s second journey. The playthrough is proceeding nicely, and I’ll probably do another article about some of the changes and new memes and stuff pretty soon. Right now, … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Team Rocket Battle

Music to My Ears: C Viper Stage

March 4, 2014March 7, 2014 Chris

This week, Music to My Ears is featuring a track that it has featured before — with a twist. “Street Fighter x Megaman” was a bit of a controversial release if only because of Capcom’s bungling of Megaman in general. … Continue reading Music to My Ears: C Viper Stage

“Twitch Plays Pokemon:” WE BEAT THE GAME!

March 1, 2014March 6, 2014 Chris

On Saturday morning at about 2 a.m. Arizona time, Twitch Plays Pokemon managed to overcome Blue’s Blastoise and beat the game! There was no shortage of drama on the way, some of which we’ve already covered here before (like Zapdos … Continue reading “Twitch Plays Pokemon:” WE BEAT THE GAME!

Music to My Ears: Lorule Castle

February 25, 2014March 4, 2014 Chris

Music to My Ears finally gives some love this week to one of the best games of 2013. Before The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was released, I was a little hesitant, mostly because there had been so … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Lorule Castle

“Twitch Plays Pokemon:” The Zapdos Conundrum

February 24, 2014March 4, 2014 Chris

On Saturday night, Twitch Plays Pokemon accomplished the near-impossible: the stream worked together long enough to catch a Zapdos. The group’s reaction (and my own) was tremendous. People were celebrating and throwing out capital letters like there was no tomorrow. … Continue reading “Twitch Plays Pokemon:” The Zapdos Conundrum

“Twitch Plays Pokemon”: Descent into Madness

February 19, 2014April 27, 2014 Chris

About a week ago, a new sensation started somewhat quietly on Twitch. Thanks to an IRC script that allowed commands to be relayed, viewers were treated to an interesting experience: trying to go through Pokemon Red with everyone in the … Continue reading “Twitch Plays Pokemon”: Descent into Madness

Music to My Ears: Bowser’s Lava Lake Keep

February 18, 2014February 24, 2014 Chris

Music to My Ears continues this week with a look at a song from a game I haven’t even played yet! Woahhhhhh! “Bowser’s Lava Lake Keep” is the background music for a stage that leads to Bowser. It’s from Super … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Bowser’s Lava Lake Keep

Review: NBA 2K14 (PS4)

February 17, 2014February 25, 2014 Chris

It seems that there are two main opinions of NBA 2K14 on the next-gen systems. 1) It’s a horrendous first offering, with tons of microtransactions, missing game modes and save-breaking glitches. 2) It’s the prettiest and most fluid basketball game … Continue reading Review: NBA 2K14 (PS4)

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
