Number Fourteen With a Bullet

September 23, 2013September 30, 2013 Chris

Well, for the first time this year, I am really and truly sick. I mean the full nine yards. It happened at a terrific time, too — I had a ton of plans down in Phoenix and even took a … Continue reading Number Fourteen With a Bullet

Rent or Buy: The Grand Theft Auto V Conundrum

September 16, 2013September 22, 2013 Chris

Grand Theft Auto V releases at midnight tonight, and I still have a decision on my hands. Should I pick up a copy, or just wait a bit to rent it? I’m a fan of the GTA series, but IV … Continue reading Rent or Buy: The Grand Theft Auto V Conundrum

Where Have All the Beat-Em-Ups Gone?

September 9, 2013September 15, 2013 Chris

I was watching some video of Final Fight 3 the other day, and it reminded me of a beef I have with the video game industry. What happened to the classic beat-em-up (or brawler) genre? My love of brawlers probably … Continue reading Where Have All the Beat-Em-Ups Gone?

Review: Saints Row IV

September 3, 2013September 6, 2013 Chris

Fair or not, the Saints Row series is inexorably linked with Grand Theft Auto. At its beginning, Saints Row was a slightly less serious version of GTA. The critically acclaimed sequel seemed like the perfect mix of both worlds with … Continue reading Review: Saints Row IV

Review: Tales of Xillia (PS3)

August 26, 2013August 30, 2013 Chris

Tales of Xillia is the best title in the entire series. Okay, we’ve gotten the platitudes out of the way early. That’s good. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who has played everything released in the States … Continue reading Review: Tales of Xillia (PS3)

Lightning Strikes — No Show This Week

August 20, 2013August 25, 2013 Chris

This past weekend in Flagstaff, there was the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard in my life. That’s not an exaggeration. I’ve been through my share of monsoon storms in Phoenix, Flagstaff and Colorado, and there have been some doozies, including … Continue reading Lightning Strikes — No Show This Week

Pokemon: The Origin announced, starring Red

August 17, 2013August 17, 2013 Chris

It may not be a permanent replacement for that poor bastard Ash Ketchum, but a standalone anime featuring the characters of Pokemon Red and Green (Blue in the U.S.) is set to be released just before X and Y drop … Continue reading Pokemon: The Origin announced, starring Red

Tales of Xillia: Customization Matters

August 12, 2013August 20, 2013 Chris

The next part of Tales of Xillia’s continuing coverage around these parts is a look at what I consider to be the game’s best feature: customization. I would be complimentary of quite a few of Xillia’s mechanics so far — … Continue reading Tales of Xillia: Customization Matters

Tales of Xillia is Out! (Or, Christmas Comes Early)

August 5, 2013August 9, 2013 Chris

Tonight at midnight, I’ll finally get my hands on Tales of Xillia. If you’ve read any of my Tales articles in the past on this site, you know this is a pretty big deal for me. Tales games are few … Continue reading Tales of Xillia is Out! (Or, Christmas Comes Early)

Number Thirteen With a Bullet

July 29, 2013August 2, 2013 Chris

I spent a lot of time in the last week revamping our Youtube page, working on solutions for the live show, and losing games of Smash Up. So it wasn’t all bad. Plus, Dave and Molly managed to make it … Continue reading Number Thirteen With a Bullet

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
