Gurren Lagann Movies vs Anime

February 4, 2017December 28, 2021 Michaela

Gurren Lagann is among my favorite anime shows ever with its engaging story, great cast of characters and epic soundtrack. A couple of years after the show came out, Gurren Lagann was retold in two movies: Childhood’s End and The … Continue reading Gurren Lagann Movies vs Anime

Good Video Game Couples – Noctis and Luna

January 21, 2017March 7, 2017 Michaela

I’m a sucker for romance in stories, but I’ve found that over the years, I have pretty high expectations for what a good couple should look like. I’ve talked a lot about anime couples that I think fit the mold … Continue reading Good Video Game Couples – Noctis and Luna

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “It’s Like a Small Light,” Sayuri

January 14, 2017March 7, 2017 Michaela

I haven’t talked much about anime endings in this series of posts, but Erased’s is certainly a notable one. It takes a much more stylized direction with its art style and colors, weaving abstract images and scenes together to create … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “It’s Like a Small Light,” Sayuri

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Kaze no Uta,” Flow

January 7, 2017March 7, 2017 Michaela

With season 2 of Tales of Zestiria the X underway, it reminded me of how much I enjoy the opening of the first season. I’ve talked about another opening Flow has done before, and this song also proves to be … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Kaze no Uta,” Flow

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “H.T.,” Tsuneo Imahori

December 31, 2016March 4, 2017 Michaela

The opening of Trigun is pretty unique because of its lack of lyrics. Despite that, it’s an extremely catching and fun song to listen to. The opening itself features mostly establishing shots of the characters and the setting, although there … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “H.T.,” Tsuneo Imahori

This semester of Anime Club introduced a bunch of new shows for me to watch, thanks to the strong selection of anime that were released in the Fall season. Dabbling in the new shows is fun, but it also gave … Continue reading Scoring the Best and Worst Anime I’ve Seen Round 10

Yuri!!! On Ice and the Importance of Representation

December 11, 2016May 10, 2017 Michaela

Something that I’ve realized while gushing over the wonderful, healthy love story between Yuri and Victor in Yuri!!! on Ice is just how important good representation of homosexual couples is in anime. It wasn’t until I started talking to friends … Continue reading Yuri!!! On Ice and the Importance of Representation

November 23, 2016 Michaela

Tuesday was the long-awaited Zelda concert in Symphony Hall in Phoenix. We went with family and friends of Chris’ and the experience was absolutely fantastic. Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
