First Impressions: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch)

December 12, 2018February 8, 2019 Chris

I’ve seen a ton of media outlets making puns about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate being a smashing success. We’re better than that, journalists. You don’t have to take the lowest-hanging fruit every time. Still, there’s no denying that SSBU has … Continue reading First Impressions: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch)

Nintendo Switch, and the Appeal of Gaming on the Go

November 5, 2018March 8, 2019 Chris

After I got my promotion a few months ago, I decided to splurge and pick up a Nintendo Switch. I had very little experience with the console; other than using Shaun’s to play through all of Super Mario Odyssey, I’d … Continue reading Nintendo Switch, and the Appeal of Gaming on the Go

Idol, Never Idle: Getting Back to Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE

May 28, 2018July 1, 2018 Chris

I started playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE a couple years ago and found it to be charming and fun overall. The Wii U was in dire need of RPGs (or quality games in general), and even though the second-screen utilization … Continue reading Idol, Never Idle: Getting Back to Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE

Wrestlemania 34 Review: Blood, Sweat and Tears — and More Blood

April 9, 2018May 21, 2018 Chris

A night after a phenomenal NXT Takeover (seriously, go watch Gargano/Ciampa and the six-man ladder match if you haven’t already), Wrestlemania 34 was faced with its usual task of trying to provide something for everyone. That’s a tough sell, especially … Continue reading Wrestlemania 34 Review: Blood, Sweat and Tears — and More Blood

Early Impressions: Rise of the Tomb Raider

March 5, 2018April 30, 2018 Chris

Slowly but surely, I’m working my way through games that I’ve missed in the last couple years. The backlog problem is a very real thing. One of those titles is Rise of the Tomb Raider, the sequel to the 2013 … Continue reading Early Impressions: Rise of the Tomb Raider

Making Sense of 2017’s Best Video Games

January 1, 2018February 5, 2018 Chris

We’re back in full swing now that 2018 is over — the break is done and the fun has just begun. Or something. But we’ll have a Dave episode of the podcast tomorrow, and Thursday is the annual Best Of … Continue reading Making Sense of 2017’s Best Video Games

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
