NBA 2K19: First Impressions, and the Issue of Microtransactions

October 8, 2018December 26, 2018 Chris

I said last year that NBA 2K18 lost a customer with its gross microtransactions nonsense. While voting with your wallet is an overrated concept sometimes, I’d like to think that losing a customer who bought every annual edition for more … Continue reading NBA 2K19: First Impressions, and the Issue of Microtransactions

NBA 2K18, and How Microtransactions Lost a Customer

September 25, 2017December 17, 2017 Chris

Sports video games have the reputation of being little more than roster updates and a couple new features on an annual basis. NBA 2K18 decided to break from this mold in a new and horrifying way — by completely breaking … Continue reading NBA 2K18, and How Microtransactions Lost a Customer

Review: NBA 2K15 (PS4) — Worth a Shot

November 6, 2014November 26, 2014 Chris

Following a mediocre jump to the next-gen systems, 2K Games found itself in an interesting situation — needing to step up its game despite a lack of competition. Sure, the NBA Live franchise still exists in some sense of the … Continue reading Review: NBA 2K15 (PS4) — Worth a Shot

“Fall,” or “That Time of Year When Games Kill Wallets”

September 23, 2014September 28, 2014 Chris

Every fall, video game publishers conspire to take all of the money from our wallets. This is a known commodity, but I still fall for it every year. How else to explain the sudden transition from “barely anything is coming … Continue reading “Fall,” or “That Time of Year When Games Kill Wallets”

The PS4 Conundrum: To Buy or Not To Buy

November 19, 2013December 23, 2013 Chris

The Playstation 4 came out a few days ago. I stared at one longingly in our local Gamestop. But I didn’t pull the trigger to become one of the early adopters (you know, before they ran out of units at … Continue reading The PS4 Conundrum: To Buy or Not To Buy

PS4 Details Emerge; $399, Later This Year

June 10, 2013June 10, 2013 Chris

Well, I didn’t think I was going to be amazed by anything at E3, but the way Sony has destroyed Microsoft? That caught my attention. Let’s be clear: Somehow, Sony managed to reveal the PS4 before any announcements were made … Continue reading PS4 Details Emerge; $399, Later This Year

Xbox One: Feel the Excitement?

May 21, 2013 Chris

I just don’t get it. I don’t. I thought gamers were taking part in the “video games” genre, yet all I watched for the last hour were tech demos, sports, a TV guide and a dog in Call of Duty. … Continue reading Xbox One: Feel the Excitement?

New Xbox 720 “Durango” rumors surface, enrage everybody

March 20, 2013 Shaun

And this is why I hate people. New rumors are in that the “Durango,” codename for the Xbox 720 (also a codename), will require optical discs to be downloaded to the hard drive, but will not be played off of … Continue reading New Xbox 720 “Durango” rumors surface, enrage everybody

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
