Music to My Ears: Menu Theme (Metroid Prime)

July 25, 2018October 23, 2018 Chris

There’s just something about the squishy noises at the start of this song that get me, you know? Metroid Prime seemed like a huge risk at the time of its release. You want to take a trusted Nintendo franchise and … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Menu Theme (Metroid Prime)

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call: Best of Both Worlds

July 1, 2018August 13, 2018 Chris

The Nintendo 3DS has been a phenomenal system. Between its first-party originals, a bevy of third-party options and more ports than you can shake a stick at, it might feature the best lineup in video game history. But everything comes … Continue reading Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call: Best of Both Worlds

Music to My Ears: Quest Battle (Tokyo Mirage Sessions)

June 25, 2018July 25, 2018 Chris

There are quite a few gems tucked into the Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE OST, but this is the song that stuck out the most. That means it gets today’s spotlight while every other song is forced to languish in the … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Quest Battle (Tokyo Mirage Sessions)

Group Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

June 18, 2018September 11, 2018 Gray Areas

Editor’s note: This is the last “lost review” from a few years ago. Remember, we did an entire hourlong podcast episode about Spirit of Justice, so consider 1,700 words light work in comparison. THE GOOD Michelle:  As a massive fan … Continue reading Group Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

Group Review: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

June 11, 2018August 13, 2018 Gray Areas

Editor’s note: This is another in a short series of old reviews that never saw the light of day for some reason. The games are still out, so it’s relevant! Trust me! THE GOOD Chris: It’s a Link to the … Continue reading Group Review: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Group Review: Pokemon X/Y

June 4, 2018July 12, 2018 Gray Areas

Editor’s note: I unearthed some reviews that we worked on a while back that never saw the light of day. They’re not exactly the most timely at this point, but here they are anyway! THE GOOD Jason: The move to … Continue reading Group Review: Pokemon X/Y

Idol, Never Idle: Getting Back to Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE

May 28, 2018July 1, 2018 Chris

I started playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE a couple years ago and found it to be charming and fun overall. The Wii U was in dire need of RPGs (or quality games in general), and even though the second-screen utilization … Continue reading Idol, Never Idle: Getting Back to Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE

My Favorite Levels of Kirby’s Epic Yarn

December 17, 2017January 29, 2018 Michaela

Kirby’s Epic Yarn is one of my favorite games for the Wii. Epic Yarn is the only Kirby game I’ve played, and while it’s considered a far cry for the series, I absolutely love it. The level designs are fun … Continue reading My Favorite Levels of Kirby’s Epic Yarn

Music to My Ears: Steam Gardens (Wooden Kingdom)

November 21, 2017April 15, 2025 Chris

I thought the first track I would feature from Super Mario Odyssey was “Jump Up, Super Star!” But I was wrong. The standout track from me is a more unassuming piece that surprises you a bit when you first get … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Steam Gardens (Wooden Kingdom)

Chris has never touched the Switch before, but he’s about to dive head-first into Super Mario Odyssey! This is a blind playthrough where we’ll be beating the game and tackling some post-game content as well. We take requests! If there’s … Continue reading Let’s Play Super Mario Odyssey (Blind) 1

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
