Music to My Ears: Tabi no Tochuu (Spice and Wolf)

January 22, 2018March 5, 2018 Chris

Michaela usually covers the anime stuff around these parts, but I stumbled on a cover of a song that I adored last night. So we’re breaking the rules and covering that in a series that usually focuses on video games … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Tabi no Tochuu (Spice and Wolf)

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Strength,” Abingdon Boys School

July 31, 2015March 4, 2017 Michaela

My second song from Soul Eater, this is the fourth and final ending called “Strength”. My favorite among the ending themes from the show, the piano is driving and melodic. The ending is admittedly strange to watch seeing as how … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Strength,” Abingdon Boys School

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Ignite,” Eir Aoi

July 10, 2015March 4, 2017 Michaela

I have yet to finish the second season of Sword Art Online II, but I really enjoy listening to this song and felt I had to talk about it as soon as possible. At first, I didn’t care for “Ignite”. … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Ignite,” Eir Aoi

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Let Me Hear,” Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

July 3, 2015March 4, 2017 Michaela

“Let Me Hear” is an opening that grew on me as I watched Parasyte. Initially, I liked the driving rhythm of the beginning of the song, but as soon as the auto-tuned screaming voice entered the song I’d skip it. … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Let Me Hear,” Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Magia,” Kalafina

June 26, 2015March 4, 2017 Michaela

While the ending video of “Magia” is simplistic to watch – despite its admittedly good job of foreshadowing the direction the narrative takes – I’m choosing this song more for its application in Madoka Magica. Within minutes of the first … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Magia,” Kalafina

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Hacking to the Gate,” Kanako Ito

June 19, 2015March 4, 2017 Michaela

This next opening is featured in Steins;Gate. “Hacking to the Gate” contains key visuals and lyrics that correlate with many of the themes and ideas in Steins;Gate without spoiling the narrative in the show. This opening is fast and can … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Hacking to the Gate,” Kanako Ito

Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Guren no Yumiya,” Linked Horizon

June 12, 2015March 4, 2017 Michaela

For the rest of summer vacation, I’ll be doing a series of weekly posts discussing my favorite opening and ending themes from anime and articulating their greatness in a paragraph or two. I’m going to kick it off with the … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings – “Guren no Yumiya,” Linked Horizon

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
