Best Anime Openings/Endings- “Fatima,” Kanako Ito

November 6, 2019November 3, 2019 Michaela

What makes an anime opening work so well is the perfect combination of animation and music. The best openings, for me, have the visuals match with the music both thematically and rhythmically. At the same time, the visuals match the … Continue reading Best Anime Openings/Endings- “Fatima,” Kanako Ito

Review: Tales of Xillia 2 (PS3)

October 16, 2014November 21, 2014 Chris

Tales of Xillia 2 manages to do what Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World could not – be a competent, fun sequel that maintains the spirit of the original game. There are some reviewers out there who complained … Continue reading Review: Tales of Xillia 2 (PS3)

Music to My Ears: Time’s Scar

August 17, 2014August 23, 2014 Chris

God, where do you even begin with Chrono Cross? It’s not as bad as some people claim. It’s not as good as some people claim. (Gamespot gave it a perfect 10 back in the day!) It’s pretty much the definitive … Continue reading Music to My Ears: Time’s Scar

The numbers are mostly in now, and thankfully, X-Men: Days of Future Past was a gamble that has officially paid off for Fox. 3DS Sequel to Ace Attorney 5: Dual Destinies Announced – Not Starring Phoenix Wright

April 23, 2014April 23, 2014 Shaun

Earlier this week, Capcom revealed a sequel to the 3DS MASTERPIECE Ace Attorney 5: Dual Destinies. However, calling it a “sequel” is a bit of a stretch – if anything, the game can only be classified as a prequel, and … Continue reading 3DS Sequel to Ace Attorney 5: Dual Destinies Announced – Not Starring Phoenix Wright

My Wishlist for Golden Sun 4

March 21, 2014March 21, 2014 Michaela

Quite frankly, it irks me that a fourth installment is not being developed for the Golden Sun series. They’re some of my favorite games to play, and the lack of attention the series gets kills me. I don’t care if … Continue reading My Wishlist for Golden Sun 4

A sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past comes out in about a week, and I’m having a hard time getting excited about it. A Link Between Worlds is set to hit the streets on Nov. … Continue reading Link Between Worlds: 21 Years in the Making

This column originally ran on November 20, 2010. This was the final Checkpoint — we brought the band back for one last hurrah with a slightly different format. Characters Left 4 Dead 2 introduced a new group of survivors to … Continue reading Checkpoint: Left 4 Dead 2

Eternal Darkness sequel announced – Shadow of the Eternals

May 3, 2013May 3, 2013 Shaun

In what I consider is some of the biggest news of this year, an Eternal Darkness sequel, titled Shadow of the Eternals,  is looking for funding and is aiming to release on the PC and Wii U. Screw the PS4. … Continue reading Eternal Darkness sequel announced – Shadow of the Eternals

Gray Areas

Gray Areas is a pop culture extravaganza with a live weekly podcast every Thursday night, daily Let's Play videos, and a bevy of old blog posts for your enjoyment.

The current crew includes Chris, Dave and Shaun, who have been there since the beginning, and Cody, who joined in 2021. We also have other contributors like Michaela who chip in from time to time.

We cover everything from video games, anime and movies to music, books and idiots in the news.

This whole thing was started as At the Buzzer in February 2011, the brainchild of three men desperate for attention. It became Objection Network in 2017 and then this in 2024. It’s slightly related to an old Flagstaff radio show from 2008, kinda like how Frasier was slightly related to Cheers. In other words, we're all getting old and it's a little depressing.
