When I was a freshman in college, there wasn’t a more popular show than Family Guy in my dorm. Despite the fact that it had been off the air for a couple of years, the DVDs of that show were on almost every night in someone’s dorm room. The show used jokes that were funny, witty and just plain goofy at times. (Like when Peter was setting up a picnic outside with a red blanket and a bull came and pulverized him.)
The characters were likable as well. Lois was the well-meaning matriarch, Peter was the irresponsible yet loving husband, the kids were normal, Brian was a talking dog and Stewie was an evil baby. All of them fit together well in their own ways.

I’m writing in response to Dave’s article on Wednesday about what he would do with 180 million dollars. I must defend myself on a couple points.
Point of defense, number 1: Dave implied that I would buy an island and dedicate it to performing crazy science experiments. This is false. I can hold all the science experiments I need to right in my own home. My roommates provide the appropriate fodder. And science experiments on an island can only lead to scenarios like Lost. Before you know it, I’m jumping through time with polar bears and smoke monsters, destination: purgatory.
Point of defense, number 2: Dave implied that…you know what? Creating a Lost scenario wouldn’t be that bad. Lost is, hands down, the greatest show ever created. Sure, there are shows that are better written, like Breaking Bad. Or shows that feature consistently fascinating characters, like Dexter. But no show explores the themes or tells a story like Lost did. Continue reading “Lost it all”
The Legend of Korra preview: A masterpiece in the making
The day has finally arrived, everyone! Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra finally hit the world wide web yesterday with the early release of its premiere! That’s right, the first two episodes of the show have officially been released for your viewing pleasure. Haven’t seen them yet? Well then check them out HERE! And if the show itself isn’t enough to convince you to watch it, then perhaps I’ll be able to in this blog…
You see, The Legend of Korra is technically the “sequel” to Nick’s hit television show Avatar: The Last Airbender. A show that followed the adventures and tribulations of a young boy named Aang who woke up after about a hundred years of sleep and found that his people, the airbenders, had been wiped out by the now warring and expansionist Fire Nation. Now Aang isn’t just an airbender, he’s the Avatar, a person who can bend all four elements (Earth, Air, Water, Fire) and is tasked with keeping the world at peace and in balance — a task that his hundred-year sleep pretty much ruined. So he sets off to stop the Fire Nation and restore the world to the way it’s supposed to be, a task that is fully fleshed out in the three seasons that Avatar: The Last Airbender takes up. The show is amazing folks, no joke. It’s on Netflix, GO WATCH IT.

Look, I know. It’s a copout. But it’s been a rough week. I’ve been working extra because someone’s on a vacation. I spent last weekend (and three days in the week) in Phoenix for my grandpa’s open heart surgery (which had a variety of complications, but he’s doing better now). All of that activity has me sick now, staring at another long work week.
