Updates on Life and Katawa Shoujo

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so I figured I’d take this chance to at least let you know that I didn’t just fall off the face of the earth.

I’ve taken a new position at Sam’s Club, and am now in charge of the Books, Movies, Music and Games/Software sections. It’s an “entertaining” job, despite how early in the morning I have to get up now. I’ve also gone back to school for one last semester, in the hopes of finally earning my Bachelor Degree in Psychology. Which is yet another thing that tends to eat up a lot of my time.

That isn’t to say that I’ve been without free-time though, because that’s certainly not true. In fact I do my best to always ensure I stay sane with a decent amount of free-time. Me and the guys here at At the Buzzer have been churning out Game On’s like you wouldn’t believe, with many more of them planned for the future. Deadspace, Aliens: Colonial Marines, some more TOR… maybe even some Alice: Madness Returns. We’ve got a ton of stuff planned people.

As for me, myself, I’ve been playing TOR pretty regularly, as well as League of Legends. I also picked up that XCOM game that was all the rage a few months back, and I finally understand why. The idea of playing a game that constantly autosaves and feature permadeath was something that stood out to me, a feature that has likewise made the upcoming Fire Emblem game too good to pass up on. I was never really a fan of Hardcore mode in Diablo 2 or 3, mainly because it just felt like one bit of lag could ruin days of work. But the idea of having real consequences to a strategy game like XCOM or Fire Emblem, really seems to add to the tension you experience every single mission. A tension that I can only assume will be ten times greater in Fire Emblem than in XCOM, seeing as the character who die in Fire Emblem actually have stories and tales of their own to tell. If a soldier dies in XCOM, I pretty much just have to train a new one. So yeah, the next few weeks should prove to be an exciting…

In other news… Remember that surprisingly high quality Visual Novel I reviewed a while back? The one about dating disabled girls? Well it would seem that the fan following for Katawa Shoujo hasn’t diminished. Indeed, one might argue that it’s only gotten stronger. Or at least I can only assume so, seeing as there are still people out there willing to make a Castlevania-esque version of it featuring the crazy, short-sighted guy that lived down the hall from you in the original game and believed that feminist were trying to take over the world. I’d love to tell you that it’s an awesome little game, but I kinda suck at Castlevania, so my opinion really shouldn’t carry all that much weight. I had fun with it regardless though, you should consider giving it a try.

But yeah, that’s my update from the front. Hopefully I can get into the groove of things and start posting a bit more regularly. So stay frosty my friends, because there is always more content on the way…

  1. Another XCOM fan! (I always get excited about that.) I’m also looking forward to the new Fire Emblem game, for the same reasons you mentioned. I’m always a little heartbroken when XCOM soldiers die after I so carefully changed their names to blatantly obvious identifiers… so I can only imagine how grueling Fire Emblem will be.

Anyway, best of luck with school, etc. Love this site and am looking forward to more posts in the future!
