Straight from Japan is more news and announcements about the upcoming Pokemon X and Y versions releasing this October. After perusing, I’m utterlly convinced in my bitter assessment that no collection of Pokemon are ever going to reach the standards set by the original cast of Red and Blue anytime ever.
First up, we have the announcement of a few more Pokemanz for your judgement:
- Yayakoma, the generic, boring bird, fits the title’s “generic, boring bird” category, proudly filling in the shoes of the Pidgeys before it (Not to mention its name sounds like you’re sarcastically praising a vegetative state. Think about it and get back to me).
- Erikiteru, the weird looking yellow thing with electric/normal typing, the combination we’ve always wanted.
- Yancham, who is admittedly adorable, but I’m about tapped out on fighting types at this point.
- Gogoat, a grass goat thing who, aside from it’s stupidly obvious name, is pretty interesting. Plus, as a bonus, you get to ride him. So he’s like a Lapras, but for land. So and LANDPRAS AMIRITE YEAH I KNOW IT SUCKED I’M SORRY.
What are your thoughts on the new Pokemon? While you’re thinking, more news:
Apparently, the new Pokemon land is also going to be designed and based on France, with the games capital taking cues from Paris.

Gray Areas 
I like the ones you like… Gogoat, or LANDPRAS as you call it, is pretty sweet looking. I would ride it. Most definitely. But it’s no Lapras, sadly. Nothing will ever be as epic or adorable as a Lapras. Yancham is adorable, too–I’m just not a fan of fighting types overall.
Erikiteru is hideous. What happened to Pikachu and Raichu or Ampharos? Ampharos is the shit, and it’s a second generation!
i don’t know why they can’t just keep Pidgeys and Rattatas as such. It’s not worth hiring people to come up with more hideous versions of a Pidgey or Rattata just so it can be part of the new generation. It drives me nuts.
At least the starters for X and Y are cute. I legitimately love all three of them.
Right? I get that the beginning-ish pokemon can’t all be Dragonites, but do they have to be ugly as hell? I should want to love my pokemon, not euthanize them as soon as a replacement comes around.
And yes. Fennikin is the word.
Seriously! That’s my complaint. There’s no purpose to intentionally creating hideous Pokemon as beginner/intro types that no one will want to catch and train.
