Theories about the new Phoenix Wright sequel announcement

At the very end of last year, Capcom announced that they had more Phoenix Wright titles in the works, and hinted at least one would be a sequel to Dual Destinies, in the main line of the Ace Attorney games.

Well, at Nintendo Direct this past week, the creators of the series…didn’t offer much more feedback, except at least to confirm that more Phoenix Wright was on the way. One of the games is still a mystery, but is being headed by the director of Dual Destinies. The other, apparently, is being developed as an “entirely new” entry in the Ace Attorney series. To this point, we’ve had the main series, the Miles Investigations spin-offs, and then the Phoenix Wright-Layton crossover. Could this mean it’s ANOTHER new direction for the series? Or maybe another new character in the main line, like what they did in Apollo Justice? Or…is this just a bad translation?

Hopefully, at least one of these games is a follow up to Dual Destinies, which featured one of the strongest stories in the series, and easily the best gameplay. Someone asked if this could be the start of a new trilogy…to which I respond, technically, wouldn’t this be the second game in the trilogy? Isn’t the Dark Age of Law just an expansion of the necessity of a jury idea that was introduced in Apollo Justice? And while Phoenix Wright was pretty clearly the main character in Dual Destinies, couldn’t you make an argument that this new trilogy is sort of the Apollo Justice saga? Regardless, unlike some game franchises out there, there’s clearly plenty left to explore in this universe, and I can’t wait to dive back in. The Layton crossover will have to help me bide my time until then.

In the meantime...cant f**ing wait
