We covered a song from this soundtrack a couple months ago, but now that I’m finally getting a chance to play the game (I loaned Tech Guy my 3DS for about a month, which made playing this more difficult than I expected), let’s go back, shall we?
Unsurprisingly, some of the better tracks from the original game have been making a strong comeback in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The music outside Mount Pyre is still my favorite music in the game, and probably due its own post somewhere down the line. Many of the town themes sound fresher than ever. There are a few new additions that fit right in with the classics.
I’m not surprised to see some disgruntled folks talking about certain tracks that didn’t quite get the same treatment. The original R/S/E soundtrack was known for its ubiquitous trumpets, blaring across the entire Hoenn region. It became something of a running joke, but all things considered, the Game Boy Advance did a pretty decent job pumping out good sound. In the remade OST, those trumpets are found much less frequently, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Still, I can’t fault people for being used to the sound of the original music and liking it more.
That said…
Check out this track. This might be the best adaptation of the entire 200+ list of songs. It starts off with a menacingly low piano, adds in a solitary horn for dramatic effect, and then 14 seconds in THE BEAT DROPS AND EVERYTHING GETS RIDICULOUS. I can’t do it justice. Take a listen.

I wish my fight with Archie was more of a challenge, because then I would have been able to listen to this track more and really enjoy it. At least now I have more of an excuse to listen to it nonstop now!
