Taking Care of Business
This post is going to be a little shorter than most because I’m devoting most of my spare time this week to our new audio setup.
Going back through the archives, I think there’s a lot to like about what we’ve done with the show. But one of the things that makes me cringe is the huge dichotomy between our HD episodes in the studio in Phoenix, and the quality of episodes when we’re forced to use Skype.
What follows is a somewhat technical look behind the scenes at At the Buzzer. Come with me after the jump.

I Call B(C)S
This week brought on the New Year, and the start of college football’s meaningful bowl games. (Sorry folks, the winner of the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl won’t live on in eternal lore.) With those meaningful bowl games, great games tend to follow. Monday was no exception, with two of the best BCS bowls that I’ve ever seen: Oregon beating Wisconsin, and Oklahoma State beating Stanford (in OT).
With the excitement of those games still fresh in my mind, and the snooze-fest that is sure to be the BCS National Championship game (really…LSU vs. Alabama, if we set the over/under at 20, would they make it? Going the Distance 009: Choosy Moms Choose GIF
We’re opening the new year with another guest comic by Doug Fiala, who has produced the first ever .gif. This is some high-tech stuff here. You may have to click the picture to see it in action, though, depending on your browser. In Going the Distance, our main character, “You,” has to manage to make his way to delicious cake. Meet the New Year, Same as the Old Year
I’m not a huge fan of New Year’s.
My holiday priority list has already been pretty well established around these parts. It’s Christmas first, then everything else way down the list. Thanksgiving’s No. 2. Independence Day’s probably third because of all the good food and fireworks.

Dear Diary,
The existential quandary of all existential quandary, the likes of which I’m not convinced I’ve ever been faced with before. An earth shattering revelation have I unintentionally just now stumbled upon. If you had asked me who, if I had any choice in the world, I would want to be my best celebrity friend, I would have told you Steve Nash with nary a hesitation. But now, a new candidate has entered the fray.
Taylor Swift and I are destined to be best friends. Now, I know what you’re thinking, but my intentions are completely plutonic. I just think we’d have a really fun time together. Losing at the buzzer

A basketball game can’t end in any better way. The entire contest comes down to one final shot. I’ve been involved on the winning end of one of those in my basketball playing career, and it was a great feeling.
